HIDDEN COSTS OF DIGITAL IMMATURITY IN THE FINANCIAL PROCESSES OF AN INDUSTRIAL ENTERPRISE

Abstract:
At industrial enterprises, digital support for financial processes often remains fragmented: even when information systems are available, manual operations, repeated data entry, out-of-system approvals, and ex post corrections persist. As a result, part of the losses is not recorded as direct accounting expenses, but appears in longer payment approval periods, longer period-end closing cycles, delays in preparing budget decisions and management reporting, as well as in lower data quality and higher labor intensity of the financial function. The research problem lies in the lack of economically oriented tools for identifying and interpreting such losses. The purpose of the article is to develop an economic interpretation of the digital immaturity of financial processes in an industrial enterprise, to classify the related hidden costs, and to define principles for their inclusion in the system of digital maturity assessment. The scientific novelty consists in clarifying digital immaturity as an economically significant state of a financial process that manifests itself through hidden costs and can be diagnosed using measurable indicators. The methodology is based on systems, comparative, and structural-functional analysis, the process approach, and the institutional interpretation of costs. The results include a definition of digital immaturity of financial processes, a mechanism explaining the emergence and accumulation of hidden costs within the end-to-end financial management contour, and a five-part classification of such costs: transaction, time, information, control, and coordination costs. The article also proposes a coefficient of hidden costs of digital immaturity intended for the economic adjustment of formal digital maturity scores. The practical implications are related to diagnosing budgeting, treasury, management reporting, and financial control processes. Further research should focus on empirical testing of the proposed coefficient and calibration of its weights for different subprocesses of the financial cycle.
