Abstract:
The article theoretically substantiates physical culture and sport as an economic system by identifying and applying the characteristics of economic systemic organization, determining its sectoral and institutional structure, and constructing a sector–institutional matrix with subsequent assessment of its analytical potential. The research problem stems from fragmented perspectives and insufficient integration of scholarly approaches to physical culture and sport. Consequently, its sociocultural content, economic relations, sectoral organization, institutional structure, and reproduction mechanisms are largely examined separately, which hinders a holistic understanding of the field and a comprehensive analysis of its functioning, adaptation, and reproduction. The scientific novelty lies in integrating theoretical perspectives on the economic system of physical culture and sport through identifying systemic economic characteristics, defining its sectoral and institutional structure, and developing a sector–institutional analytical matrix. The methodological framework combines the systems approach with analysis, synthesis, comparison, and systematization of scholarly and regulatory sources. The study systematizes ten characteristics of economic systemic organization, identifies eleven institutions grouped into four categories, and distinguishes public, nonprofit, and commercial sectors. Their comparison forms a sector–institutional matrix reflecting differences in the implementation of institutional mechanisms across sectors and enabling analysis of the conditions for reproducing physical culture and sports activities. The practical significance lies in the matrix’s applicability to analyzing sectoral–institutional organization and reproduction mechanisms. The findings provide a theoretical and methodological basis for further research into the functioning, adaptation, and reproduction of the economic system of physical culture and sport.
