Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to develop a theoretically grounded approach to analyzing the evolution of economic systems and the transformation of organizational and managerial mechanisms under digitalization. The research problem lies in the fact that classical management models formed during the industrial era are becoming less capable of explaining the behavior of socio-economic systems in an environment of high turbulence, platform competition, accelerated data exchange, and institutional shifts. The research hypothesis is that improving the efficiency of modern economic systems requires a transition from linear control schemes to integrative management models combining digital technologies, adaptability of managerial decisions, and consideration of the institutional environment. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the systematization of the historical stages of management thought development followed by a comparison of traditional and modern approaches to assessing the performance of economic systems. The methodological basis of the research includes systemic, comparative, and historical-logical methods, as well as an analysis of management concepts of the 20th and 21st centuries. The study establishes that digitalization has changed the content of managerial efficiency, shifting the focus from formal control of resources to the speed of adaptation, data quality, flexibility of organizational structures, and resilience to external shocks. The practical significance of the results lies in the possibility of their application in developing strategies for managing socio-economic systems and improving performance assessment tools. Prospects for further research are associated with the development of applied models for measuring adaptability and the digital maturity of organizations.
