Abstract:
This article examines changes in the process of money laundering in the context of the digital transformation of the economy and the impact of these changes on economic security. The aim of the work is to reveal the conceptual foundations of the legalization process, systematize the directions of transformation of tools, channels and entities, and identify the limitations of the current system of combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT). The methodological basis consists of theoretical analysis and synthesis, systemic and comparative analysis, generalization, classification and conceptual modeling. The study examines the impact of cryptocurrencies, mixers, cross-chain bridges and decentralized financial platforms on the speed, scalability and cross-border movement of criminal proceeds. Based on the results of the analysis, three groups of factors limiting the effectiveness of the current AML/CFT system are identified: technological features of digital tools, differences in national legislation regarding the regulation of digital assets and limitations associated with the use of new technologies for AML/CFT purposes. A conceptual model is proposed linking the transformation of the legalization process with the micro-, national and supranational levels of the AML/CFT architecture. The theoretical significance of this study lies in its systematization of concepts regarding the digital transformation of money laundering. The findings provide a foundation for the further development of differentiated methods to counter these threats to economic security.
